Reading Spaces @ PRSC

Students are encouraged to check out the Reading Spaces across the Year 7, 8 and 9 areas. There is an opportunity to chill with a new book as more new reads were added by the library. Many stories await a reading date with students.

These great book nooks offer a wide range of materials that appeal to and support the needs of students with different interests and abilities. Various Aussie books in the nooks ensure students see themselves represented in the pages! Do not forget that a novel plays a major role in developing literacy.

Teen Reading - Deakin

Research Project

"Reading in the Digital Era" The final report form Deakin is now available and makes interesting reading, as they conclude "Acknowledging the diverse reading habits and preferences among Australian teens, our report highlights a landscape where digital activities often overshadow traditional reading. A key challenge is helping teens find books that captivate their interests and motivate them to read. Enhancements in library services and further use of digital recommendation tools are potential solutions. Importantly, the study’s focus was not on reading ability but on understanding reading habits and preferences..."

All year levels have an upper limit of 1400 words. There is no minimum word limit.
Creative writing forms like short stories, including poems, scripts and more are also accepted.
This year’s theme (Beauty in the unknown) is optional; entrants have the freedom to write about anything that inspires them.

Story Lines writing competition 2024

If you live, learn, work or play in the City of Kingston, you are eligible to enter our Story Lines writing competition for the chance to win fabulous prizes and have your story published.

The age categories are 5 to 7 years, 8 to 10 years, 11 to 13 years and 14 to 16 years.

There will be 3 prizes awarded per age group. Prizes include Westfield vouchers and winners will be published in our 2024 Story Lines book.

Winners will be announced on Friday 25 October.
