Teen Reading - Deakin

Research Project

"Reading in the Digital Era"  The final report form Deakin is now available and makes interesting reading, as they conclude "Acknowledging the diverse reading habits and preferences among Australian teens, our report highlights a landscape where digital activities often overshadow traditional reading. A key challenge is helping teens find books that captivate their interests and motivate them to read. Enhancements in library services and further use of digital recommendation tools are potential solutions. Importantly, the study’s focus was not on reading ability but on understanding reading habits and preferences..."

Two Sides to Every Murder

Olivia was born during the infamous Camp Lost Lake murders but, when she begins questioning the events surrounding her birth, she finds there's a lot more to that tragic night.

Most people don't spend their childhood on the run. Reagan's mother might be considered guilty of murder, but Reagan knows she's innocent. Tired of running, she returns to Camp to clear her mother's name.

Only, someone wants the past to remain buried - and will kill again to do so. If they're to stay alive, Olivia and Reagan must work together fast to uncover the truth. . .

As the trio is drawn into the riddle of the dead letter writers, they discover that the past is never truly past, and that it's never too late for old wrongs to be put right . . .

A Sea of Wolves

By Sarah Street

Set in the same world as A Curse of Salt, it is inspired by Little Red Riding Hood.

A broken treaty.

A wolf in sheep's clothing

And a love that will need to defy all odds to survive HER RED HOOD CAN'T PROTECT HER HEART . . .

A fifty-year-old treaty between pirates and the city of Bray lies in tatters, so Mersey sets out to free her city - and herself - from the clutches of the Heartless King. But when her reckless plan fails, she finds herself captured by the world's most notorious pirate crew.

As Mersey battles between fighting for Bray's safety and falling into the arms of the ship's cold-blooded first mate, Golde, she's soon caught up in the beginnings of a war; one she knows will have disastrous consequences for the people she loves, but just might be the thing to set her free.

Amid lies, betrayal and a blossoming love for someone she is supposed to want dead, Mersey is torn between two lives.

Uncover lurking wolves prepared to pounce and a sweeping romantasy in this enemies-to-lovers fairy-tale twist set upon stormy seas.

The Breakup Artists

By Adriana Mather

THE BREAKUP ARTISTS is a funny and playful romance perfect for fans of Jenny Han's The Summer I Turned Pretty and The Kissing Booth.

When it's your job to break-up bad relationships, there's only one rule. DON'T fall in love.

Best friends August and Valentine have an unusual summer job. They are hired by parents to break up bad high school relationships.

Valentine (the brains of the operation) believes that they're making the world a little better, steering relationships off a cliff so the kids can someday find true love.

August doesn't believe in soul mates. In fact, he thinks the idea of falling head over heels is ridiculous. That is until he meets the one girl who changes everything - Ella.

The only problem is, she's their new case. So of course, everything he's told her is a lie...even his name.

Maria Petranelli is prepared for anything (except this)

By Elisa Chenoweth

Looking for Alibrandi meets Arrested Development in this YA comedy about a student exchange gone hilariously, criminally wrong.

Maria Petranelli will do anything to get away from her overbearing Italian-Australian family. She’s over their constant heckling about getting a boyfriend, their unspoken belief that she’s not normal, and their loudly spoken belief that she’s incapable of doing, well, anything. So when her family declares she ‘couldn’t handle living in Italy’, Maria immediately signs up to go there on student exchange. What could possibly go wrong? Well, everything …

Despite months of mental preparation for every possible scenario, Maria is out of her depth in Italy. She struggles with the language, immediately gets scammed, and is bewildered by her growing attraction to Kennedy, the-sweet-but-hopeless American exchange student who is determined to be her friend … if only Maria would let her.

When the two girls accidentally witness a crime, Maria discovers just what she can and can’t handle. Being kidnapped in the boot of a car and driven off into the Italian countryside? Maybe. But working out her feelings for Kennedy before it’s too late?

Maria Petranelli is prepared for anything … except this.

Amidst it all is Grayson Hawthorne, tasked with a vital role in this year's game. But as tensions rise and the mind-bending challenges push the players to their limits-physically, mentally, and emotionally, it soon becomes clear that not everyone is playing by the rules.
