Kurt Defris National 15 and Under Ice Hockey Tournament

This July I had the opportunity to represent Victoria in the annual Kurt Defris National 15 and Under Ice Hockey Tournament. Queensland, ACT, Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia and Western Australia gathered in Newcastle, NSW for the event. Only having played Ice Hockey for two and a half years I was excited to be named in the squad and I really enjoyed playing at that level. We played a traditional round robin tournament and ended up in the bronze medal game against Western Australia. Our team put in a solid effort, but we came up just short of the bronze. We were devastated about the result, but it was an incredible experience.

Year 7-10 EXCEL Sport Girls Netball Victoria School Championships

On Tuesday 30th July, Patterson River Secondary College entered four teams in the Girls Netball Victoria School Championships from the Year 7-10 EXCEL Sport Program. The tournament was held at the new Jubilee Park Stadium in Frankston and is open to Government, Catholic and Independent schools from around the state. Throughout the course of the day, our teams played a total of 32 games, each lasting 14 minutes. It was a fantastic experience for all the students and while the results did not go our way, everyone experienced different positions and developed their netball skills. Thank you to Mrs. Bound for her tireless efforts throughout the long day.

SSV Junior Lacrosse State Finals

On Friday 2nd August the Year 8 EXCEL Sport class entered 2 boys’ and 2 girls’ teams into the SSV Junior Lacrosse State Finals at The Albert Ground, Melbourne. After a five-week training block the students were well prepared for this event. At the end of the preliminary rounds, Patterson River Secondary College had 2 out of the 4 teams playing off in a grand final and the other 2 playing for third place. The Patterson River Secondary College Boys A team had only lost 1 game throughout the day against the other Patterson River B team. The Patterson River Secondary College Boys B team had a chance to knock out our greatest threat for the title in the last home and away game by winning their last game by more than 12 goals against Caroline Chisholm. Unfortunately, they only managed to win 13-2 and Montmorency (with 3 Lacrosse players) was in the GF against Patterson River Boys A. With a couple of minutes to go the scores were tied at 7-7 but unfortunately Montmorency Secondary College scored 2 quick goals and took out the State Title and Patterson River Secondary College Boys A was the State Runners Up. The Patterson River Secondary College B boys ended up finishing 4th after losing the 3rd place game. The Patterson River Secondary College Girls 1 team were undefeated all day and played Melbourne Girls College in the GF final and found themselves tied at the final siren 4-4. A 2-minute overtime game was required to split the 2 teams and unfortunately MGC won 6-4 in overtime also relegating our girls to State Runners Up. The Patterson River Secondary College 2 girls won their 3rd place game convincingly and finished 3rd in the State. It was a fantastic day for the students and the College. Thank you to Mrs. Brand for her assistance throughout the day.
