Sports Report

AFL Interschool Sport

Patterson River Secondary College competed in the Northern Peninsula Division in AFL, Netball Badminton & Soccer. We had many teams competing across all year levels. Well done to all of the students who represented the school and a massive thank you to the teachers who gave up their time to train and coach these teams in what was a very busy time of year.

Congratulations to the Year 8 Boys AFL team coached by Haje Halabi and Corey McCormack. This outstanding team won the NPD Championships and went on to make the grand final at the SMR Championships, eventually going down to a very good Beaumaris team. A great effort from this group.

Jessie Bound coached two netball teams to victory at the NPD Championships in Term 2. Well done to the Year 7 & 8 Boys team and the Year 8 Girls team. Awesome effort by Ms Bound and the players involved.

We had 4 runners qualify to compete at the State Cross Country Championships in Term 2. Well done to Lucy M, Harper G, Sarah L and Lochie F on this amazing effort!

Netball Interschool Sport

On Monday, August 5th, the Junior Boys Netball team represented the College at the Southern Metropolitan Region finals held at Jubilee Park Stadium in Frankton. We were fortunate to play indoors at such an impressive venue. Following a strong performance in Term 2, where the team won the Northern Peninsula Division, the players were confident and ready to give their best.

The team competed in three matches, each consisting of four 7-minute quarters instead of the usual two 7-minute halves. They faced Carwatha College, Kambrya College and Rosebud Secondary College. The team started with a solid win against Carwatha, but despite their best efforts, they narrowly lost to Kambrya College by 4 goals in a closely contested match. They ended the day on a high note with a victory over Rosebud Secondary College.

Despite many players being tired and sore from competing and representing the College in AFL and Lacrosse events in the days leading up to the event, as well as their own weekend sports, I am incredibly proud of their efforts and attitudes. The MVPs for the day were Cuan, who excelled in both defense and attack and Paxon, who skilfully managed the midcourt throughout all matches. A big shout-out to Liam and Raph, who both stepped up into the team and made significant contributions whenever they were on the court.
