Special Announcement

Dear DPS Community,

After much thought and with mixed emotions, I am announcing my retirement at the end of this year. It has been one of the greatest privileges of my life to serve as Principal of DPS for the past ten years. This school, and this community, have been like a second home.

I am proud of the many achievements we have made together during my time at DPS.

I have loved every part of my career in education — from my early years teaching in country schools, to incredible experiences on international exchanges in the UK and Germany, and finally to these final years at DPS. No matter where I have been, my purpose has always been the same: to make a difference for students and help them achieve their very best. I still believe, as strongly as ever, that teaching is the best job in the world.

DPS is a remarkable school. Every day, I have been inspired by the enthusiasm and kindness of our students, the dedication and professionalism of our staff, and the warmth and support of our families. We have shared so many proud moments and achievements together, and I will treasure those memories for years to come.

This has not been an easy decision, but I know the time is right. The school is in great hands with an exceptional team, strong leadership, and a wonderful culture that will continue to thrive. I leave feeling confident, grateful, and incredibly proud of what we have accomplished together.

Thank you for allowing me to be part of your children’s education and for the trust, friendship, and joy you have shared with me over the years. It has been an honour and a privilege to serve this community. I would also like to personally thank our staff who, to be honest, have made me look good!

Thank you also to our community for your trust in me as the leader of your school. Thank you for the chats, and for allowing me to be honest and at times wear my heart on my sleeve. A huge thankyou to all who have served with me on school council and for giving of your time to manage the school’s administration. Thankyou also to our parents and friends and all those who volunteered because you helped us provide the best learning environment possible. And, I really believe DPS is the best school in the district! Just look at the up to date buildings, facilities and the fantastic play areas and grounds in general.

Each year at the Grade 6 Graduation I always say to graduating students that they will always be DPS and will always be welcomed back. I feel the same, I will always be DPS and will watch the school with interest, because I have spent more years at DPS than any other school.

I encourage the community to continue to support our staff to be their best and to do their best for your children.

With thanks and warmest wishes,

Jim Hill

Principal
