Graduation Preparation and Dance Curriculum
This Term, in weeks 1 and 2, every year level at Doncaster Primary School learnt their own dance to perform in front of a parent audience. Our dance teacher was from Dance Curriculum Australia and they come to our school each year. This year we had Omar as our teacher, a previous top 4 finisher in the world dance competition 2017 with his team, the Prestige Dance Club. Each year level had 2 dances, for the grade 6’s we had a hip-hop dance, dancing to the song Fancy Footwork by Chromeo, and a partner dance that was with the song Every Little Step by Bobby Brow. Each dance had its own style, with Fancy footwork being more robotic and trendy, while Every Little Step was more classic with a slower, more original pace. On Friday, at the end of week 2, the whole school performed their dances, Levels 1, 3 and 5 all performed in the morning and Levels Prep, 2, 4 and 6 performed in the afternoon. During the performance, some parents who were there might have noticed we only performed Every Little Step, that was because Fancy Footwork is going to be performed at graduation. Our grade 6 teachers have organised special dance practice times to make sure the Level 6’s can cleanly remember and perform the dance on the day.

Prep Transition
On October 10th the school captains recited a speech prepared in front of 2026 prep parents informing them about the wonders about our diverse school. We each talked about topics close to our hearts creating a warm environment. After our speeches we chatted to the parents, about enquiries, extracurricular activities and the school in general. It was a great honour to represent our school in front of people who are considering putting their children into our school and showing leadership to parents who want their children to excel. Last week I helped with the prep transition classes. I helped Ms Edwards while she taught the new preps and read to them. It was a profound experience with the new preps, helping them with stuff, chatting to them and listening. Besides getting along with the preps, I had to clean up the classroom, which meant packing away things like shoelace practice boards or setting out work sheets. It was a bit challenging, becoming quick at packing away and setting things out for the preps before they got their seats but nonetheless an impeccable session.

Buddy Sessions - Information Reports
This term, every Friday, the preps and their Level 6 buddies have been working together on some activities such as, creating an information report on a certain animal. My buddy and I, we made ours on penguins. The Level 6's have helped them to write, how to use a computer appropriately and what types of trusted websites to use. In grade 6, we have written information reports before, and so we got to apply all our knowledge so far on informative texts with our buddies. We talked about their diets, appearances, habits, behaviours and even some fun facts. We are now up to publishing and designing our front covers. It's a great opportunity to work with our buddies, as our year is almost coming to an end, and for them to have someone to look up to. Overall, buddies this year has been an incredible experience and a huge genuine interest for me this year.

Cooking
This Term in Weeks 1, 3 and 5 the Level 6's got to go to Doncaster Secondary College to learn and cook different foods. We baked chocolate chip muffins as well as made meatballs and tzatziki with Greek salad and pita bread. Our first dish we made was chocolate chip muffins, we had to thoroughly wash our hands and get our ingredients. We firstly watched our teacher make the batter before we got out and did it ourselves. My partner and I worked on one part separately, soon working together to bake the muffins. Our next dish we made was meatballs in tzatziki with Greek salad and pita bread. We got our ingredients and started. I focused on making the tzatziki and salad while my partner made the meatballs. Once everything was finished and in our containers, we started the pita bread, cooking it until golden brown on each side. We got to eat everything outside where I finished almost everything. Next year when I enter high school I look forward to doing Food Tech as I enjoyed this experience. Overall cooking at DSC was an amazing experience making me learn new safety rules around a kitchen and cooking our own meals.
