Physical Education

Prep – 2 students have been actively preparing for the junior school House Athletics Event on Tuesday 18th November. Students have participated in both individual and team activities including tunnel ball and baton relay, where students rely on each other in a team setting to work together and perform their role in the team as required. In other sports, they are developing the correct technique for throwing the vortex, jumping and landing safely for long jump, building their speed for hurdles and the 400m as well as our fun novelty events including the egg and spoon race and jumping sacks.

Parents are welcome to attend on the day and support their children. All events will be conducted on the oval except tunnel ball which is being held on the half basketball court and vortex throwing which will be held in the gym. Students are encouraged to wear their house colours and bring a hat and full drink bottle. A free Zooper Dooper icy pole will be provided on the day as part of lunch eating.

Please inform your classroom teacher if you do not want your child to receive the Zooper Dooper.

Level 3-6

Our middle and senior school students are playing racquet sports in P.E. this term including badminton for Weeks 1-3 this term. Students focused on their backhand serve and underarm serve to begin a point or rally. This introduced the thumb grip for the backhand serve. Students have also practised the smash, lunge and chasse to enable them to move quickly on the court for drop shots.

Students are currently conducting fitness assessments to compare and identify areas of strength and areas for improvement in relation to their results from Term 1 and previous years' results. They will measure their flexibility through the sit and reach test, leg power through the vertical jump, strength, through knee or full push ups and the plank, endurance through the Beep Test and hand eye coordination through the wall toss. Students work in pairs to provide feedback to improve their technique and reduce the risk of injury. It is great to see students pushing themselves to reach new personal bests and encourage their peers to be their best.
