Level One

Mathematics

In Year One, we are developing our understanding of place value, recognising how tens and ones work together to make numbers. We use this knowledge to explore addition and subtraction strategies, solving problems in practical ways. We also apply these skills when working with money, learning to skip count by 2s, 5s and 10s to find total amounts and make simple transactions. These experiences help us build number fluency and confidence when working with everyday maths situations.

Writing

In Writing we have been working on how to plan, write  and use a rubric to self-assess our narratives. We started with our plans and created some very interesting characters and settings for our stories. We could create any type of character that we wanted!

Then we moved on to the writing! We put our characters into some exciting settings. We were asked to try and use as many verbs as we could. We also tried to use a "sizzling start" at the beginning of each narrative to make our stories much more fun for the reader!

Finally, we used a rubric to help us self-assess our work. We had to count how many verbs we used in our stories. It was interesting to look through our work and use tally marks to count how many verbs we used! Our stories were a lot of fun to write!

We are looking forward to continuing to do excellent work in Term 4!
