English As an Additional Language

EAL Program Update – Term Focus
During this term, our EAL students have been busy developing their English skills through a variety of engaging activities. They have been learning to write recounts and information reports, researching native Australian animals, and expanding their descriptive vocabulary. Students have also been connecting everyday English to academic language and building confidence by sharing their writing with classmates.
In Years 3–6, students have focused on research skills and using subject-specific vocabulary with growing accuracy and confidence. They have also been encouraged to use their first language to help them understand new ideas and remember vocabulary.
Our Years 1–2 learners have enjoyed exploring fiction and non-fiction texts, strengthening their understanding of sentence structure, nouns, verbs and adjectives, including text features through guided writing tasks.
It has been wonderful to see each student making steady progress across Speaking and Listening, Reading, and Writing.
Later this term, students will take part in procedural writing activities, including fun cooking lessons, where they can practise sequencing language and command verbs in real-life contexts.
