Indonesian Independence Day

We were so pleased to see Year 12 student Bo A participate in the 81st Indonesian Independence Day celebrations at the Indonesian Embassy in Canberra over the weekend of 16-17 August. Bo was the recipient of a scholarship open to VCE students learning Indonesian and flew to Canberra to join with other students and embassy staff to celebrate the event. Bo was also treated to a dinner with the Ambassador and full expenses of flights and accommodation paid for. Well done, Bo!
The Year 12 Indonesian students also had the opportunity to celebrate this event locally by attending the annual flag hoisting ceremony and celebrations at the Indonesian Consulate here in Melbourne in Albert Park. We set off early on Monday 17th Augustand enjoyed a wonderful time of commemorating this event and then enjoyed an Indonesian lunch in Hawthorn before coming home.
These are rich cultural experiences for our students to connect with the Indonesian community in Australia, understand more of Indonesia's history and bring further context to cross-cultural understanding and interaction.
