Welcome back to Term 4! We hope everyone enjoyed a relaxing and enjoyable break. It is hard to believe we are already in the final term of the year! We have an exciting term ahead, filled with engaging learning experiences, special events and opportunities to celebrate our students' achievements.
This term, our focus is on persuasive texts. Students will explore how authors use persuasive language to convince others of their opinions. In Reading, we will identify opinions, reasons and persuasive techniques in different texts. In Writing, students will learn to express their opinions clearly, support their ideas with convincing reasons and create their own persuasive pieces, including posters, letters and short arguments.
In Numeracy, we will be exploring fractions of shapes, collections and distances, with a particular focus on halves (½), quarters (¼) and eighths (⅛). Students will learn to recognise, represent and compare these fractions through hands-on activities and real-life examples. We will also explore how to divide a whole into equal parts and practise finding fractions of groups of objects and lengths.

This term's inquiry unit focuses on safety and making responsible choices in everyday situations. We will begin by exploring sun safety and how to protect ourselves from harmful UV rays. Students will then investigate safety signs and symbols, road safety, chemical and household safety, and cyber safety.
Through discussions, practical activities and real-life scenarios, students will develop the knowledge and confidence to recognise potential dangers, make safe decisions and understand when to seek help from a trusted adult.

As part of our Inquiry unit, A Stronger, Safer Me!, Grade 2 students participated in the RACV Safety Squad program. This engaging session, delivered by an educator, helped students develop important safety skills for everyday life. Students explored passenger, pedestrian and bike safety, as well as how to identify potential hazards around the home. Through interactive discussions and activities, students developed a better understanding of how to recognise dangers and make safe, responsible choices.

A friendly reminder that students require hats from September to April in accordance with the Education Department's Sunsmart Policy. Students are also welcome to bring a named roll-on sunscreen to keep at school, if they haven’t already provided one. Please make sure it is clearly labelled with your child’s name.
