School Council

From the School Council President
School Council was encouraged by the recent commitment from Nick McGowan and the Liberal Party to provide $12 million in funding to complete Stages 2 and 3 of the Heathmont East Primary School redevelopment should a Wilson Liberal Government be elected. As shared in previous communications, this commitment represents a significant step towards delivering the facilities our students, staff and broader school community deserve, and we are grateful for the support shown to our school.
Our advocacy efforts continue, and School Council remains committed to working constructively with all parties ahead of the November election to secure the funding needed to complete the project. Our focus remains firmly on ensuring the best possible learning environment for current and future students.
As part of this ongoing advocacy, we were pleased to welcome Amy Mills from the Greens to the school on Wednesday, 14 October to meet with myself and the school leadership team. The visit provided an opportunity to discuss the challenges our school faces in relation to ageing facilities, future infrastructure needs and broader education funding pressures. We appreciated the opportunity to share our experiences and outline the benefits that further investment would bring to our students and community.
With additional candidates now entering the race for the upcoming election, School Council will continue engaging with all candidates and parties to ensure Heathmont East Primary School's needs remain visible and well understood. We look forward to updating the community as further commitments are made.
We are also pleased to learn that the new playground and art room upgrade projects have now progressed into the architectural design phase. This is an exciting milestone, and we look forward to seeing this take further shape over coming months.
A Reminder About Contacting School Council
School Council can be contacted via the School Council email address if you have questions, feedback or matters relating to the governance and strategic direction of the school.
School Council matters may include topics such as school policies, strategic planning, facilities and infrastructure, community engagement, fundraising, and broader school improvement priorities. A reminder the school council email address is
4819-schoolcouncil@schools.vic.edu.au or if you wish to email myself directly Matt.McKean@education.vic.gov.au
Operational matters, including classroom issues, student wellbeing concerns, day-to-day school operations, staffing matters, or individual student issues, should be raised directly with the school through the appropriate staff member or school leadership team, as these are managed operationally rather than by School Council.
Thank you for your ongoing support of Heathmont East Primary School. We appreciate the community's continued engagement and advocacy and look forward to sharing more positive updates in the coming months.
On behalf of the school council
Matt McKean
