MSA - Bill Turner Trophy
The Bill Turner Trophy and Bill Turner Cup is a prestigious school football competition that features over 800 teams from NSW, QLD, ACT and Victoria. Maribyrnong College has competed in this tournament for many years and this year, our girls team again qualified for the Bill Turner Trophy finals series played in Newcastle.
Our team consisted of largely Year 7 - 9 girls, offering the older students the opportunity to take on leadership responsibilities for the younger athletes.
In the third-place play-off, our team came up against tough opposition in Westfields Sports High School, and unfortunately, were defeated 4-0 - Westfields eventually won the title.
Our team played with distinction and represented the College with enormous pride and professionalism. Their knowledge and commitment to game day preparation and recovery improved significantly from this experience. Our Coaches received many positive comments from other coaches and tournament organisers, about how well the team played and persisted.
A highlight of the tournament was the Spirit of Football Award. This Award recognises an athlete who demonstrates characteristics such as sportswomanship, fair play, being a positive contributor to team harmony, commitment, persistence, cooperation and leadership. Congratulations to Year 10 student-athlete Ella Lee who received this award. Ella was presented with her award by The Hon. Sonia Hornery MP (Member for Wallsend). Congratulations to Ella and team!
