R U OK? Day
R U OK? is a national suicide prevention charity and registered public health promotion that encourages people to stay connected and have conversations that can help others through difficult times. Their work focuses on building the motivation, confidence and skills of the help-giver – the person who can have a meaningful conversation with someone who is struggling with life.
It was great to see so many students participating in R U OK? Day activities. Our Year 7, 8 & 10 students started the day with a session focused on equipping students to ask and respond to an R U OK? conversation. And our Year 9 students heard from guest speaker, AFLW player and proud Noongar woman Courtney Ugle, as part of their third 'Respectful Relationships' session.
At lunchtime students chose from a range of activities: BBQ, mindful colouring, making stress balls, a movie, hugs with Honey the dog and matching staff to their childhood photo. These activities remind us that hope, optimism, warmth and a collective college effort are important in keeping our young people safe.
