Mathematics Olympiad & Student Excellence

Maths Enrichment Program (APSMO)
This year, Cheltenham Primary School is excited to continue its Maths Enrichment Program through its involvement with the Australasian Problem Solving Mathematical Olympiads (APSMO) and its associated programs.
The two programs we are involved in this year are Junior Maths Games (Yr. 4) and Junior Maths Olympiad (Yr. 6). The Yr. 5s will be involved in a series of problem solving tasks that foster collaborative and lateral thinking, in preparation for the following year. These tasks will be centred around explicitly taught strategies.
The programs are designed to:
- Promote and improve mathematical problem solving skills,
- Develop an understanding of a variety of strategies to promote flexibility in problem solving,
- Encourage creativity and collaboration in problem solving.
There will be four contests held throughout the year, where students will individually complete a contest paper. Students will work in pairs to solve similar questions in all other sessions.
The Yr. 6 students will get the opportunity to compete against teams from other schools across Australia and New Zealand.
The contest dates for both programs are:
Competition One - Wednesday, 6th May 2026
Competition Two - Wednesday, 10th June 2026
Competition Three - Wednesday, 29th July 2026
Competition Four - Wednesday, 9th September 2026
