Years 3/4 - Middle school

Term 1
Wow! How time flies when you're having fun. Firstly, what a busy, but fantastic start Middle School students have made to the year. Getting to know their new teachers, routines, meeting and making new friends, NAPLAN, learning how to log into google and use new IT programs, SRC speeches, sport, feeding and naming the resident calf ....... the list goes on.
A quick recap of things we have been learning and working on this term:
In Mathematics, we’ve been focusing on number and place value. Students have been building their understanding of how numbers work, and we’ve been using lots of games and hands-on activities to practise these skills. This has been a great way to help students feel more confident while also having fun applying what they’ve learned.
In Literacy, we’ve explored narrative and persuasive writing through a range of mentor texts. Students have been working on building clear sentences using different parts of speech, students demonstrating some fantastic growth in their writing. We certainly have some fututre authors on our hands. Students have also been getting more creative, adding detail for purpose and adding more sophisticated vocabulary to make their writing more engaging.
Our Inquiry unit has been a highlight this term, with a focus on citizenship and our place in society. Students designed their own countries, created laws, new flags, and thought deeply about what makes rules fair when it comes to rights and responsibilities of all.
Students also had a lot of fun with the projects creating an advertising campaign to convince others to vote for them as Prime Minister, explainging rules in place at home, and exploring and researching important roles in our community. The presentations have been absolute highlight to finish off the term. A massive congratulations to students (especially Year 3s being their first time presenting), on the wonderfuully creative and enagaging presentations.
Overall, it’s been great to see students growing in confidence, creativity, and independence across all areas of learning.
Enjoy your Easter and School Holiday breaks, we look forward to another wonderful term together.
