From the Assistant Principal

Thank you all for your warm welcome to the school community here at Cheltenham Primary School. It has been lovely to meet so many of our families on site in a morning as you walk or cycle to school with your children.
One of our major focus areas this year will be attendance at school.
Did you know that missing just one day of school a fortnight adds up to missing four weeks of school a year!
We know that you as parents/carers can be juggling many challenges that can impact your ability to get your children to school every day. But, attending school each day is important for all students to ensure they can experience what really counts – the learning, the friendships, the fun and the opportunities that can shape their futures.
So far this term 30% of our students have attended school every single day - congratulations to those students & thank you to all of those families.
This does however mean that 70% of students have already missed some of their schooling this year.
We do understand that there are times when your child will need to miss school but to ensure minimal disruption to their education, please, where possible, schedule family holidays or medical/dental appointments outside of school time. If your child is well enough to attend but is worried about friendships or schoolwork, please encourage them to come to school. Avoiding school can make these feelings worse and can create a negative pattern of behaviour.
If your child is having difficulty attending school or if you need support in building regular school attendance, please talk to their teacher orcontact me directly to discuss the supports we can offer.
If your student/s must miss school, please notify us as soon as possible by calling main reception or adding an attendance notification to Compass.
