School Assembly

The blustery and wet weather pushed our final assembly of the term into the School Hall meaning that we did not have the capacity for all of our Foundation and Year 1 students or all of our parents/carers to join us.

As the theme was Harmony Day and the Foundation students had spent so much time and effort making their Harmony Day 'crowns', we gave them the opportunity to parade through the assembled school to rapturous applause and cheering.

The 2026 School Captains, Talei and Nathan then explained the meaning and history of Harmony Day.

"Harmony day was on celebrated on Saturday the 21st March. Harmony Day established by the UN in 1999 and has been celebrated ever since. The day was created to eliminate racial discrimination. Harmony Week has highlighted themes of multicultural unity and respect.

This year the Harmony Day's phrase was “Everyone belongs”

It is a time to honour the oldest continuous living culture of First Nations Australians alongside the traditions of those who have arrived from every corner of the globe and to celebrate everyone that calls Australia home. The Year 6 classes have contributed to the day by making paper boats with messages of hope in them and adding pictures to a map to show from where we are all from across the world.

We celebrate Harmony Day to promote unity, inclusiveness and respect.  Even though Harmony Day is only one day a year, you can still celebrate its qualities every day through being a kind and respectful to everyone you meet."

Talei and Nathan then invited a small group of Year 1 students to the to the front of the Hall who introduced themselves and explained which country their family was from and said "Hello" in their traditional language.

Assembly continued with Interschool Sports report from Ethan and Haimish, the District Swimming report from Louis and Luke and Ava and Izzy reporting about the 3x3 Basketball competition.

Olivia and Elise gave the results of the House Points competition so far this year with the following totals:

First place - Le Page House (Green) with 835 points,
Second place Wilden House (Yellow) with 761 points,
Third place Cullen House (Red) with 751 points,
Fourth place Courtney House (Blue) with 523 points.

We congratulated the members of Le Page House - our Term 1 leaders! Everyone else was reminded that this is only the Term 1 update and that there will be so many opportunities for the other students to add to their Houses totals as the year goes by.

Grace, Isabel and Troy asked for all those students who have had a birthday in Term 1 to raise their hands, and we all gave "three cheers' to wish them well.  The assembly drew to a close with a few reminders of the rules around the BER building from Luca and Divit.

Thank you to all who contributed to the assembly especially our Foundation and Year 1 students as well as the parents who were able to attend on such a miserably cold day.
