PE 

Hello to all families and an even bigger hello to all our new families! 

For the families who don’t know me, my name is Meagan and I’m the PE teacher here at Lancefield Primary School. It’s been a real joy getting to know all of the new Preps and other students who have come to our school this year. PE is a very important part of our school as it gives the students a chance to learn a huge range of new skills and sports. Over the years we’ve played some amazing sports such Ultimate Frisbee, Gaelic Football, Touch Football, Hockey, Lacrosse, Croquet (yes, Croquet). We’ve also played your more run of the mill (but still great) sports like basketball, soccer, Aussie Rules and Cricket.

In my PE classes, the students know they don’t have to be the fastest, the longest jumper, the biggest thrower. They just need to give everything a go and find a way to believe in themselves even when things feel too tricky. Words of encouragement are spoken. Self-talk is always positive. Differences are celebrated. 

This term, the Preps will be working on their Fine Motor Skills through a range of games, activities and towards the end of the ter, we’ll do gymnastics! 

Years 1-3 are learning the skills and rules of Newcombe, a fun game that teaches them the basics of volleyball but with throwing and catching. We’re working our way up to using the REALLY BIG NET but until then, we’ll keep practicing with the smaller tennis nets.

Years 4-6 are learning the brilliant sport of Volleyball. They are learning to dig, set and serve. They are also learning how hard it is to dig, set and serve. We’ll get there!

In week 8, we have the Whole School Cross Country down at Lancefield Park. This is always a brilliant morning. I’ll send out more messages closer to the time as we will need parent helpers for the event. In week 9, we have the COBAW Summer Sports carnival at Romsey. We will be entering a Volleyball and Cricket team, made up of Year 5 and 6 students.
