Year 4/5N

Welcome to our first newsletter of 2026!
4/5N have had a wonderful start to the year, filled with lots of learning, getting to know one another, and of course, having plenty of fun along the way. We have certainly kicked off the year strong, diving straight into our learning routines and classroom expectations.
In Mathematics, students have been revising and applying formal algorithms to solve addition and subtraction problems. Following this, we have spent the past week exploring factors and multiples, developing strategies to identify them and deepening students’ number understanding.
In Literacy, our learning has centred around the Age of Exploration. This historical period refers to a time when explorers travelled the world by sea, discovering new lands and trade routes, including the famous Spice Islands. Students have been reading a range of informative texts, learning about key explorers and their journeys, and answering comprehension questions daily to build both their historical knowledge and reading skills.
During Wellbeing lessons, we have been focusing on character strengths—what they are, why they matter, and how we can demonstrate them at school and beyond. We have also been discussing emotions, how they can change in different situations, and positive strategies for managing and expressing feelings.
4/5N have been lucky enough to begin the year with weekly SAKG sessions throughout Term 1. Students are thoroughly enjoying cooking in the kitchen with Andrew, taking on responsibilities, working as part of a team, and creating delicious meals to share together. A big thank you to all the parent helpers who have supported both cooking and gardening sessions so far. These sessions would not be possible without your help, and we truly appreciate your continued support.
It has been a fantastic start to the year, and we are looking forward to all the learning still to come!
