Year 5/6

The 5/6T students have made an outstanding start to the year, and I couldn’t be prouder of the way they have settled into their learning. They have been consistently demonstrating our school values of Learning, Positivity and Safety across the school, and are setting a wonderful example for our younger students.

In our Knowledge Building unit, students have begun learning about the Age of Exploration, including the Spice Islands, early Portuguese explorers and Christopher Columbus. In Mathematics, we have been focusing on the properties of numbers, including multiples, factors, prime and composite numbers, building strong foundations for future learning.

As part of our Start Right program, we have revisited school and classroom expectations, alongside strategies to support personal wellbeing. Students have also set their own learning goals for the term, which we will continue to monitor and reflect on as the term progresses.

A key routine that has now been established is our daily catch-up schedule. Each student has a rotating fortnightly time slot to meet one-on-one with me. These catch-ups provide an opportunity to discuss goals, celebrate achievements and talk through any worries or concerns. This time is incredibly valuable, and I greatly appreciate the chance to connect individually with each student.

I am looking forward to a positive and productive term ahead.
