Year 12 Physics

Last Friday, our Year 12 Physics class, accompanied by their teacher Mr Christie, traded the classroom for a front-row seat to cutting-edge science with a visit to the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO).

As part of their study of nuclear physics, this excursion offered the students a hands-on look at how core physics concepts and skills are applied in real-world research.

The day kicked off with an interactive, educator-led activity and presentation in the Discovery Centre, before heading on a tour of ANSTO’s world-class research facilities. Highlights of the tour included getting a close-up look at the OPAL research reactor (Australia’s only operating nuclear reactor), the nuclear medicine production facility, and the Australian centre for accelerator science.
