Supporting Students to Succeed – Every Day
18 months ago when we implemented the threads and the sort of behaviour we wanted to see at MECS we also reviewed our Behaviour Management and Discipline Policy.
MECS recognises that learning and teaching will thrive in a school climate that is caring and safe. Our approach to discipline recognises and helps students understand that relationships are damaged when behaviour goes wrong, or poor choices are made. MECS students are learning to respect themselves and others. Students learn to take responsibility for their actions and understand that there are consequences for behaviour.
Our Behaviour Management and Discipline Policy describes an approach to student behaviour that is fair, firm and consistent. This policy sits alongside clear expectations and explicit teaching of social and emotional skills as students are supported to understand the impact of their actions and to develop self-regulation, empathy, and resilience.
When behaviour concerns arise, staff respond calmly and consistently, using restorative practices to help students reflect, repair relationships, and learn from their experiences. Families are valued partners in this process, and open communication ensures shared understanding and support. By using this policy to guide our daily practice, we create a safe, inclusive learning environment where positive behaviour is encouraged, acknowledged, and continually developed.
