Dempsey's Digest

I want to say a big thank you to our community! Thanks for your support and thanks for saying great things about MECS to your friends, neighbours and other people you spend time with. Our Open Evening had literally 100s of people visiting the school and I was personally blown away with so many people expressing their interest in MECS, particularly because they know someone in the community. The most common expression I heard was “I know the …. family and their kids are awesome and they love this school”.
There has been a surge of interest in MECS over the past 6 months and I guess we shouldn’t be surprised. There is no doubt in this troubling time of history, with so much conflict in the world that people are seeking somewhere to land, somewhere to rest, somewhere to find hope.
As I continue to share with families, MECS is unashamedly Christian. In fact, if you come thinking that you are not in some way going to be impacted by the biblical story that underpins and is interwoven in all that we do, this school may not be the school for you, and that’s okay. The biblical story is our hope, it’s our foundation and it’s what the world needs. No wonder we have become more interesting in a time of restlessness in society.
So, thanks so much to our whole community for supporting the work that we are doing and in partnering with us. I also wanted to give a huge shout out to our staff for all of their amazing work in the lead up to and during Friday afternoon/evening as we put our best foot forward to share our beautiful school!
CEN conference & 60th Anniversary Gala Dinner
Recently we had a small contingency of staff and board members attend the Christian Education National (CEN) conference and 60th Anniversary Gala Dinner. These events were really special and lots of interesting input was warmly received. The Gala Dinner was a great celebration of 60 years of faithful service that CEN has offered to member schools. MECS has always been a member of CEN and we appreciate the resources they provide, as well as the interest and support of our flavour of Christian Education. You can learn more about CEN on their newly refreshed website… https://cen.edu.au/
Twilight Working Bee
It’s always great to see families pitch in together for our working bees, and this latest one was no different! Although we only had a small group, the amount of painting, pruning, pressure washing and general cleaning up achieved was encouraging and helped us look 'schmick' for the open evening! Thanks parents!
Ranges TEC Open Evening & Tours
Ranges TEC also had keen interest at their open night on Thursday evening. Ranges TEC is such a great opportunity for those students interested in a trade pathway. Having a trade qualification is incredible and no matter how much technology is implemented in the world, we are still going to need humans doing trades.
Congratulations!
Huge congratulations to Jenny Thlaceu and her new husband Bik, who married earlier this month. Jenny is part of our Cultural Liaison team, working with our Chin families. We wish Jenny and Bik all the best for their life together!
Berry Street Coming to MECS!
We are excited to announce that many of our staff will be participating in Berry Street Educational Model training during the work break (21st April). If you are not familiar with Berry Street, they support everyday teaching by giving teachers practical strategies which include predictable routines, emotional check-ins, and relationship-building. All strategies that help students feel safe, stay regulated, and remain engaged in learning throughout the day. I’m always so grateful for the way that our staff go the extra mile to refining their craft and improving their skills. This opportunity for professional development is a great example of that.
Upcoming Break
This week is a big week for our staff and students as three year levels are off on camp. We look forward to hearing more about these events, in due course. We are also aware that students and staff are definitely weary and ready for the upcoming break. As this is the last newsletter before the break, I wish you and your family a truly blessed Easter and the opportunity to stop and consider the enormous sacrifice that God made. Giving his only son for the sake of this world. For the sake of you, his precious child.
For those going away over the Easter and holiday break, have the best time and travel safely. I very much look forward to Term 2!
Cheers,
Michelle
