Year 12 Biology Students Experience CRISPR in Action
Our Year 12 Biology students recently visited the Yarra Ranges Tech School, where they took part in a hands‑on laboratory using CRISPR‑Cas9, the gene‑editing tool they study in class. This opportunity is truly unique, giving students access to university‑level equipment and allowing them to engage directly with the processes they usually only learn about conceptually.
Students appreciated being able to connect their theoretical understanding to a tangible, real‑world application, helping them see both the purpose and utility of gene‑editing technologies. They were highly engaged throughout the day and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
We also received wonderful feedback on how respectfully and thoughtfully our students participated in ethical discussions around gene editing. Their balanced perspectives and excellent listening skills were commended.
A fantastic day of learning, curiosity, and hands‑on science!
