We recently celebrated a very special milestone in Foundation — our 100th day of school! It was a wonderful day filled with learning, laughter, creativity, and lots of opportunities for students to celebrate how far they have come since their very first day of school.

We started the day by welcoming family members into our classroom to help us explore the number 100. Students worked together to count and organise different materials, helping them to visualise just how much 100 really looks like. It was fantastic to have families involved in our learning and to share this special celebration with them.

To begin our celebrations, students took part in a special 100 Days parade. Students arrived dressed up as though they were 100 years old, with creative costumes including glasses, walking sticks, hats, and plenty of grey hair! It was wonderful to see everyone’s imagination on display as students proudly showed off their outfits and celebrated this exciting milestone together. The parade was a fantastic way to recognise the first 100 days of learning and celebrate all of the growth and achievements our Foundation students have made.

We then moved into a literacy session where students completed a range of fun and imaginative writing activities. Some students wrote about what they think their life might look like when they turn 100 years old, while others imagined what they would do if they had $100 to spend. Our final writing challenge was to see if students could write 100 different words — a tricky task that encouraged students to think creatively and challenge themselves.

After recess, we focused on Numeracy and continued our celebrations with exciting maths rotations. Students participated in 12 different activities all based around the number 100. They counted and grouped a variety of materials, including shells and beans, while developing their counting and problem-solving skills. One of the favourite activities was creating necklaces using fruit Cheerios, where students carefully counted out 100 pieces to complete their designs.

We then moved onto some creative activities, where students took turns making their own 100 Days crowns and glasses to wear during our special parade at assembly. Another group enjoyed making fairy bread using hundreds and thousands. Counting exactly how many hundreds and thousands were on each piece of bread proved to be a little too challenging, but it was certainly a fun and delicious activity!

After lunch, we finished our exciting day with a treasure hunt in Area 2. Students worked together to search for different items in our environment, including curved leaves and pieces of tanbark that looked like letters. This activity encouraged students to use their observation skills while exploring and connecting their learning to the world around them.

Overall, our 100th day of Foundation was a well-earned day of fun and celebration. We are incredibly proud of how much our students have grown, learnt and achieved in their first 100 days of school. It was a wonderful way to celebrate this important milestone together!
