Parent Corner: Working Together Through Positive Communication

At Boroondara Park Primary School, we believe that strong partnerships between home and school are one of the greatest contributors to a child's success. Open, respectful and timely communication helps us work together to support every student to thrive.

We understand that from time to time parents may have questions, concerns or simply want to discuss how their child is progressing. Please know that we take these conversations seriously and are committed to listening, working collaboratively and finding positive solutions.

Our Open Door Approach

We encourage parents to speak with us as early as possible if something is on your mind. Small concerns are often resolved quickly through a respectful conversation.

Our classroom teachers are available to meet with parents after school between 3:30-3:45pm or by arrangement, as this allows them to give families their full attention while ensuring teaching and student supervision remain the priority during the school day.

If you contact your child's teacher by email or phone, we are committed to responding as promptly as possible. While teachers may not be able to reply immediately due to their teaching responsibilities, families can expect an acknowledgement or response within a reasonable timeframe.

Starting with the Right Person

In most situations, the best place to begin is with your child's classroom teacher. They know your child best in the school setting and can often clarify concerns or work with you to develop a solution.

If further support is required, our Assistant Principal or Principal are always available to assist. We value respectful conversations and are committed to working alongside families to achieve the best outcomes for students.

Working Together Respectfully

Our school community is built on mutual respect. We ask that all communication between parents, carers and staff remains courteous, constructive and focused on the wellbeing and learning of our students. Respectful dialogue allows us to work together effectively, even when we may have different perspectives.

When Parents Disagree

We recognise that family circumstances can sometimes be complex. In situations where parents or carers disagree about decisions relating to a child's education, the school is committed to remaining impartial and acting in accordance with legal responsibilities and the best interests of the student. Where appropriate, we will work with all parties while respecting any parenting orders or legal arrangements that may apply.
