Foundation, Grade 1 and 2 

Students enjoyed the story 'Matisse's Magical Trail' about a snail who was a fantastic artist creating artwork with his trail. Students used wax crayons to draw their own snail and then applied a blue food wash over the white paper. Where the wax crayon was applied, the blue food dye could not penetrate the paper. This is called resist. Students used white crayons on the white paper and were excited to see the trail develop with the blue food dye.

Grades 3 and 4

Students have been exploring the artwork of French artist Henri Matisse and his artwork 'Goldfish'.  A collage artwork started as 2D and then turned into a 3D cylinder. Here are some images of the artwork in the making.

Grades 5 and 6

Students have been exploring the artwork of French artist Henri Matisse and his artwork 'Goldfish'. Students are creating a goldfish from felt and developing their textile skills. Using a pattern, how to use pins correctly and learning about the right and wrong side of the fabric are important skills to know when creating their artwork. Here are some images of the goldfish in the making. 

Button eyes have been sewn. Students learnt about how to sew a button onto fabric.
