Performing Arts

Our inquiry into music genres has continued across the school this term, with each year level exploring how different artists and styles shape the way we listen, move and respond to music.

Foundation

Foundation students have been learning how beats influence the feel of a song. They have experimented with fast and slow pulses, noticing how the beat can make music sound calm, energetic or playful.

Year 1/2

The 1/2 students have taken a closer look at The Bangles, focusing on the classic hits Walk Like an Egyptian and Manic Monday. They have explored what makes the songs memorable, including their rhythm, vocal styles and storytelling.

Year 3/4

Our 3/4 students have been finding their inner boy/girl band performer while learning about the music of bands like The Backstreet Boys and Spice Girls. They have listened for harmonies, group vocals and the catchy hooks and dance styles that define this genre of pop.

Year 5/6

The 5/6 cohort has stepped back into the 1960s to study The Beatles and the enormous impact they had when they burst onto the music scene. Students have discussed how the band changed popular music, influenced culture and shaped the sound of modern artists. 

Across all year levels, students are building their understanding of how music evolves and how different genres contribute to the rich tapestry of musical expression. It has been a lively and engaging part of our Performing Arts learning, and we look forward to sharing more discoveries as the term continues.
