Child Safety

Everyone has the right to be safe

The Child Safe Standards (the Standards) are compulsory minimum standards for all Victorian schools to ensure they are well prepared to keep children and young people safe and protect them from abuse. Ministerial Order 1359 – Implementing the Child Safe Standards – Managing the risk of child abuse in schools (PDF) provides the framework for child safety in schools. The new standards came into effect on 1 July 2022.

As the standards have been updated,  we take this opportunity to remind our community of the college's obligations and how all members can access our Childsafe policies and documents.

The Brunswick Secondary College Child

Safety Policy supports our school to create and maintain a child safe organisation and protect students from all forms of abuse.

All members of our school community have a responsibility to care for young people, to positively promote their wellbeing, and protect them from any kind of harm or abuse.

Our Child Safety Policy tells our community about our strategies and arrangements to keep children safe. Sharing this policy and regularly reminding our community about it creates a shared commitment to keeping children safe. It also supports everyone in our school community to know their responsibilities.

At BSC, we undertake professional learning every year with staff and school councilors about child safety. Students have access to child safe in the year level team and Home Group and Health explores topics such as consent, rights and responsibilities. You can read more about how we keep young people safe in these documents located on the Brunswick Secondary College website under the Childsafe Policies tab:

  • Child Safety Policy
  • Child Safety Code of Conduct
  • Child Safety Responding and Reporting Obligations
  • Child Safety Risk Register

We would love to hear your feedback about these policies and processes. Please contact Claudia Johnson, the Child Safety Officer, at Claudia.Johnson@education.vic.gov.au with your comments, suggestions or concerns.

These Childsafe posters are displayed prominently on notice boards, student Teams and display screens.
