Emily Palekis
Director of Music
This year we welcomed the return of our whole-school production with the hilarious and heart-filling performances of The Wedding Singer. The arts and entertainment industry have faced many challenges over the past 2 years and this included how our students were able to engage and develop their performance skills. We needed a show that was going to bring people together and really celebrate the joys of live theatre. This production plays a pivotal role in bringing together students across the whole school, all working together to re-invigorate our culture of a strong, enthusiastic and inclusive performing arts community. All year levels are being represented and we welcomed back several graduates who performed in the band. This has allowed those students who have experienced our BSC productions in the past to bring through the traditions, to welcome and to lead our newest members into our production tribe.
This year there have been challenges (there is nothing like running a rehearsal via computer screen!) but our students have risen to the challenges faced. They supported each other, encouraged and cheered each other along through the rehearsal period and I know that our future productions are in good hands.
I want to acknowledge and thank my production team, Karen Harris, the principal team and our BSC staff and production families for getting involved and assisting along the way. These productions take a community to make them a success, so I also thank you our audiences for coming along to see the performances and cheer on our students.

The whole school production is a great way to make friends from different year levels and also have so much fun making memories. I really enjoyed my final production this year, everyone was so nice to work even though we had a few mishaps with Covid throughout the rehearsal stages of the production. I hope everyone had a good experience at the Clocktower for rehearsals and performing our shows. Also I would like to say thank you to Emily and her team for making my final production experience at BSC the most enjoyable and fun time of this year.

What an incredible time the last few months have been. To be a part of such an amazing show and reunite with the Clocktower Centre after two long years away. The feeling of performing to 500 people in a professional theatre doesn’t compare to anything else you can do with the school and makes this experience so unique and enjoyable. I’d like to acknowledge anyone joining production for the first or second time and hope that they’re inspired to continue performing with this amazing production family.

The wedding singer has taught me so much and it was something I would do again!

I really enjoyed being in the wedding singer as I met so many different people across all different grades. I got to know the people in the whole school better and strengthen friendships I already had. The rehearsing part went very smoothly as I felt I had a lot of people and videos that were filmed to go to, in case I couldn't remember or didn't know the parts. The Clocktower was very cool and made the whole production a little more fun! I loved performing in front of the audience as before then there was limited opportunities to do so in the last 2 years. Overall It was a really great experience and I hope to do more productions in the future.

Production was the best time I’ve had this year! All of the people that helped me were so kind and it is a memory that will I will remember forever.

Doing The Wedding Singer for a school production was really refreshing after the lack of productions for two years. This was one of the best and most fun productions I've been a part of. Going to a literal theatre and seeing all the professional curtains, lights and mics really seals the experience together, anyone who likes performing should take part of it.

This being my first production at the school, I could see why everyone gets so excited about it! Production Week was incredible every step of the way, and on that Saturday night (our last show) we were all so relieved and proud of all the work we put in to present the best show we could for our school community, for the first time in 2 years! I can't wait to be a part of many more productions with the incredible people involved.

The Wedding Singer was a really fun experience. All the older, more experienced kids were really supportive and encouraging, and helped us with any dances or songs you needed to practice. It was really fun being at the Clocktower and all the dances were really fun to do. Getting into different costumes and doing your makeup and hair was also a fun experience. I look forward to upcoming performances!

This year's production of 'The Wedding Singer' was so amazing! Everyone was so kind and supportive and it was truly amazing to see everyone having fun, and absolutely killing it! It was additionally so nice to regain friendships and connections with those both older and younger than me, meet new people make new friends. This was through the bonding we had over production rehearsals both during the week and on weekends, especially all of the events during production weekend. The music and dances made it so awesome, and the 80's hair, makeup and costumes really made it. I am so grateful for being on the stage again, having the opportunity to perform, and have such a close idea of what professionally performing would be like. I am already looking forward to our future productions!

My experience in participating in The Wedding Singer was amazing . There were weekly rehearsals, and as a part of the backstage team we got to do a range of activities, such as set creating, run-throughs, prop sorting, and more. I met a lot of new people, and deepened connections with people I already knew a bit. I got to meet lots of people in other year levels as well, that I otherwise wouldn't know. It was also really incredible to be able to perform the play in a real theatre. We got to explore backstage, and find out how productions are put on in a more professional setting. Though I rarely got to see them, it was so cool to perform in front of such a big audience. The overall production experience was awesome, and I can't wait for the opportunity to be apart of another school production.

Junior Production - 2 shows - Friday November 18.
We are pleased to announce that the 2022 Junior Production will be the much-loved favourite, Matilda the Musical Jnr.
This is a fabulous and uplifting show, and we will have a lot of fun bring the joy to the stage. It is especially exciting to be producing a show that has such a strong connection with Australian performing arts, given that the music was written by the uber-talented Tim Minchin.
Junior Production will stage on Thursday November 17 and Friday November 18. Tickets will be available via TryBooking, so watch Compass where we will advertise!
