VYLC

Chinese Language Program

Jennie Easson

VYLC Coordinator

Eight of our Year 9 Chinese Language students were fortunate enough to be selected to participate in the Victorian Young Leaders to China Language immersion program.

In the past the Program has operated in China, but this year it was run virtually with teachers in China teaching online. The Program is managed by the International Education Unit of the Education Department.

The students spent two weeks improving their Chinese language skills and communicating with Chinese language students in other Victorian schools. We completed the Program with an excursion to a local Chinese restaurant.

It was a good two weeks and I learned a lot of new words and sentence structures.

The VYLC program was a good experience that helped me deepen my understanding of the Chinese language and culture.

The VYLC program was a great way to learn more Chinese words and more about the culture.

The VLYC program was an exceptional opportunity to learn more not only about Chinese speaking, writing and reading, but culture too. It helped me and most (if not all) of the students who attended, deepen our understanding of China. Although it was a shame we couldn't do it actually in China and attend the Beijing Language and Culture University, It was still a great experience and I would do it again if I could.

The VYLC program was a great program which not only assisted in my learning and understanding of purely the Chinese language, but also about the culture. While I was disappointed that we couldn't go to China itself, this was for sure the next best thing. I would definitely recommend the program to anyone else who was considering it.
