Coding Challenge

A challenge - not a competition!

Have you got a passion for coding or are you curious to give it a go?

Do you have a creative yet logical mind and love to problem-solve engaging, real-world problems?

If you answered ‘Yes!’ to either of the above, you are the student who should consider entering the Victorian Coding Challenge

This challenge is run by MAV (the Mathematical Association of Victoria) in collaboration with Digital Learning and Teaching Victoria (DLTV). The project is funded by the Victorian Department of Education and Training, it is only available to government schools in Victoria.

Stage 1 is a non-competitive coding challenge. After Stage 1, students who wish to take their skills to the next level can enter Stage 2 (and attend a face to face event where they compete in teams against other students from other schools)

Entry is  free, and open to students from across Years 7 to 10.

The Victorian Coding Challenge is aimed to extend curious minds, nurture passions and support students in refining their coding skills.  The challenges are accessible from school or home, can be conducted during the school term or during school holidays, and at the student’s pace.

Stage 1 can be completed independently of Stage 2. There's no expectation students will take it further than Stage 1 unless they choose to do so.

Entry is EASY!

Students simply complete this Registration Form.   Once registered, the students entered into Stage 1 of the challenge.  Each will receive a virtual kit with a series of fun and engaging coding tasks which can be completed via a user-friendly online platform. The challenges will require that students apply coding and algorithmic thinking in order to solve interesting problems.

Everyone is welcome to join the challenge - and it is a great way to investigate the field of computer science and information systems -just to see if it may be for you!
