Slap. Bang. Kiss.

Exploring themes of activism, community and hope, this bold new play from multi-award-winning playwright Dan Giovannoni tracks three young people whose stories transform them into global symbols of revolution.

Melbourne Theatre Company production of SLAP. BANG. KISS. was an unforgettable piece of theatre that showed just how powerful the voices of young people can be.

SLAP. BANG. KISS.

Despite using only 3 actors; Sarah Fitzgerald, Conor Leach and Tsungirai Wachenuka, over 30 characters were played throughout the work - and over 10 settings were played in the one theatre space. This was outstanding, and [using] a simple set that consisted of blocks, the narrative relied heavily on the actors’ abilities to connect with the audience.  They executed this  perfectly.

I would best describeSLAP. BANG. KISS. to someone as ‘a piece of theatre accessible to all young people who are looking to make change in their communities’

This play explored issues such as oppression, gun violence and homophobia in a tactful way that was engaging for the audience without being overwhelming. I experienced a rollercoaster of emotions whilst watching the play, ranging from heartbreak, to fury, and then to triumph.

I had the incredible privilege to see this play twice during its run at the Southbank Theatre during April. Both times I left that theatre feeling stronger and more confident about my position as a young person in this world.  For a play to achieve that is truly extraordinary.
