GSV Cross Country

On Friday, 26 May our Senior School Cross Country team travelled out to Cruden Farm to compete in the GSV Cross Country Championship Carnival. After a difficult preliminary carnival, our team was out to improve on those results. We had a consistent team performance across the day, which was really pleasing. Our Juniors (Year 7&8) finished in 5th position, our Intermediates (Year 9&10) also finished 5th and our seniors (Year 11&12) finished 3rd. As a combined team we finished 4th overall.

We also had some standout individual performances on the day. These are listed below.

  • Mylie F (Year 7) 14th
  • Ruby B (Year 8) 10th
  • Sienna S (Year 10) 6th
  • Abi S (Year 11) 11th
  • Molly R (Year 12) 2nd

Well done to our cross country squad for their commitment and effort during this program.

GSV Athletics

In Week 7 our Senior School athletics program begins. Training will be held on Tuesday and Friday mornings, with Friday mornings being a track session at Duncan Mackinnon. With specialised coaches across all events, we welcome students from a range of skill and experience levels. The sign up form can be accessed by students on Shelly News. If you have any questions about the program, please email loconnell@shelford.vic.edu.au.

GSV Weekly Sport

As our weekly Sports move past the mid-way point of their seasons, we have an update on each of the sports seasons so far. Participation across all the available sports this term has been really pleasing and we know all of the students involved are enjoying each of the programs, while continually improving their skills. We wish our weekly sports luck for the remainder of their seasons.

Senior School House Athletics

We held our Senior School House Athletics Carnival at Duncan Mackinnon Reserve on Thursday 18 May. The students attended dressed up in their house colours, with a positive attitude and a willingness to involve themselves in a range of events during the day. We had a mixture of traditional events, novelty events and the staff VS student relay, which engaged a wide range of students across the day. At the conclusion of the carnival, we announced the overall house winner, as well as the year level champions.

Congratulations to the students below for winning their respective year level champion award.

  • Year 7 – Francesca W
  • Year 8 – Ruby B
  • Year 9 – Hannah L
  • Year 10 – Ruby L
  • Year 11 – Alex T and Alice J
  • Year 12 – Saskia DC

After we announced our individual year level champions it was time to announce the overall winner. The winner of the 2023 House Athletics carnival was… Langley.

Beachside Division Cross Country Carnival

On Tuesday, 30 May, Sarah W (Year 3) represented Shelford at the Beachside Division Cross Country Carnival at Bald Hill Park. Sarah was the only Shelford student to progress through to this event, after finishing 5th at the SYDSA Cross Country Carnival. Sarah finished 13th on the day, narrowly missing out on progressing through to regionals. What makes this even more impressive is Sarah is also a year young for this age group. Well done Sarah.

School Sport Victoria State Diving

On Sunday, 21 May, Zara M (Year 4) represented Shelford in the State Diving Championships at MSAC. At the conclusion of the event Zara finished 2nd and has now been invited to represent Victoria at the National Diving Championships in Sydney 21-27 August. We wish Zara all the best at this event, and we look forward to sharing her results and some photos from the event.

Outside The Gates

During May we had 3 students participating at the Australian Gymnastics championships in the Gold Coast. Georgia W (Year 8), Alex T (Year 11) and Zoey L (Year 11) all represented Victoria at this competition. Alex competed in the level 9 Artistic Gymnastics competition, Alex’s results were, 10th vault, 8th bars, 7th beam, 6th floor and 5th overall.

Zoey competed in the level 10 Artistic Gymnastics competition, Zoey’s results were 1st All Around, 1st in Ribbon and 2nd in Hoop, Ball & Clubs and 2nd in team.

It’s great to see so many of our talented students participating in sport at such a high level outside of the school. We look forward to sharing more sport news from “outside the gates” in future articles.
