Sport

Welcome to sport at Kilbreda for 2022!In early 2021, our sport teams were on fire with wins in SCSA Tennis, Swimming, Indoor Cricket, Badminton and Basketball. We all know what came next. This year we are looking forward to a full schedule (hopefully) and a very busy year for our students!

For those of you who are new at the College we encourage your involvement in our House Sport, Secondary Catholic Sports Association (SCSA) events and our afterschool South Eastern Girls' Activity Program (SEGAP) sport program.

We also warmly welcome our 2022 AFL Trainee, Matilda De Vries to the Physical Education / Sport Department this year.

House Sport

House Swimming Carnival

Our House Swimming Carnival will be held on Monday 28 February at Oakleigh Pool. The students compete in their houses Tullow (red), Brigid (green), Delany (yellow) and Kildare (blue) and can enter the 25m and 50m events in freestyle, breaststroke, butterfly and backstroke as well as novelty events and relays. If time permits, the 'staff versus student' and 'fastest swimmer' race are also highlights of the day. With our House Swimming Carnival canceled last year due to inclement weather, we are all super excited for this years carnival!

House Athletics Carnival

The House Athletics Carnival will be held on Monday 4 April at Duncan McKinnon Reserve. Last year was the first time the event was held at Duncan McKinnon Reserve and it was a great success! With Brigid being crowned champions in 2021 in a very close Carnival, we are sure the other Houses will be out for revenge this year.

SCSA Sport

Our Secondary Catholic Sport Association (SCSA) events typically take place during the day, except for our Swimming Sports which are held in the evening. The carnivals are held mostly in Melbourne and we compete against other Catholic girls' schools from around Victoria. For most competitions we send a Junior (Years 7 and 8), Intermediate (Years 9 and 10) and Senior (Years 11 and 12) team.

For further information on these carnivals you can head to the SCSA website HERE or follow their Facebook page (Secondary Catholic Sports Association) for up-to-date information and tournament results.

SEGAP Sport

Our South Eastern Girls Activity Programs (SEGAP) sport takes place on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons (2.00pm to 5.00pm). This competition takes place in Terms 2, 3 and 4 with different sports being offered to students from Years 7 to 10 each term.

In Term 2, the sports are Badminton, Basketball and Futsal. This competition takes place at Monash University with game times at 2.45pm to 3.30pm or 3.30pm to 4.15pm. All teams will be transported to the venue via our College buses. Trials for these sports will normally take place in the term before. So, towards the end of Term 1, SEGAP trials will begin.

Team Trials

The trials for these sports will take place approximately 3 to 5 weeks prior to the event. The communication will take place via the Daily Bulletin (SIMON), noticeboards, individual emails, year level emails and this newsletter. We encourage your daughters to regularly check these forms of communication as it is up to them to know what is going on each term.

Once your daughter is selected into a team you will receive an email through our Parent Portal (PAM) with all of the details about the event. You will then need to give parent consent for your daughter to participate.

Other Sporting Opportunities

Our College also competes in a number of other competitions across a range of sports. The Independent Schools Golf competition will also held early in Term 2. If your daughter is a keen golfer can you please ask her to contact us as soon as possible via joanne.wood@kilbreda.vic.edu.au

AFL Umpiring Course

The 2021 School AFL Umpiring Course is a rejuvenated, shortened program of four lessons and consists of engaging, active and fun activities based on the skills required for students to transition from a school’s program to their local community umpiring club.

Run by an Umpire Development Officer from our local community umpiring club, the program includes activities for Field, Boundary and Goal umpiring and provides students opportunities to learn, be active and transition into umpiring community football and earning money through their local umpiring club.

There will be four sessions after school from 3.30pm to 4.30pm on  21 February, 1 March, 15 March and 28 March.

Students will learn the basic skills and benefits of umpiring, along with achieving a School Umpiring Course certification.

Last year, eight of our students had the opportunity to umpire the AFL Auskick games on the MCG and Marvel Stadium!
