Art Captains
Kerstin McGregor
Being an Art Captain is so important to me because I am able to encourage students to take part in something that I am passionate about, and I am able to share and communicate ideas, interests and aspirations with other school leaders. I’ve done art every year of my schooling and have loved every minute of every class. Studio Arts has been my all time favourite as I am given the freedom of driving my own creative outcomes. However, I did enjoy making an origami mobile with my Year 11 Studio Arts class last year as well. In my role as Art Captain this year, I would love to get more students involved in making the displays that go around the school. My goal is to have more art projects running so that Dromana comes alive with colour, imagination and creativity.

For me, Art Vice Captain is being given responsibility in an area I’m passionate about, and it will allow me to work more within this field. I have really enjoyed VCE Studio Arts and the process of exploring a concept through various materials; however, I enjoyed learning about art history in Year 10 as well. This year I would like to promote the art cohort more through activities like lunchtime painting or free dress days.

Being Art Captain means that I am able to finally take pride in all that I have achieved over the years, because before this role, I never believed that I was good enough at what I love to do. I have enjoyed every art activity that has been at Dromana because it allowed me to show my passion through my work. As Art Captain this year, I would like get everyone involved with art. I want to show people how art is a challenging subject, and it is something that everyone can participate in.

To me, Art Vice Captain means that I have a responsibility to me school and myself. It gives me a title, which makes me want to further my achievement in art, as well as leadership. At Dromana, I have enjoyed both my VCE art subjects, Visual Communication Design and Studio Arts. I have also enjoyed group activities where we have created class artworks. As Art Vice Captain this year, I would like to promote the art field and encourage students to follow their passion.
