Fantastic Results

The 2016/2017 sailing season is almost to an end. We have had a team of ten students compete at Daveys Bay Yacht Club over the course of the season and are proud to announce that we achieved a third place in this series. All students sailed extremely well with a huge improvement over the course of the season in their starts, tactics, communication and boat handling skills. The results are below:

• Toorak College
• Flinders Christian College
• Dromana College
• Woodleigh College
• Cornish College

We could not have achieved this result without our coach Daniel Quinlan who gave up his time to coach the students on and off the water.

We also had six girls compete at the Girlsail Regatta this year. Light winds and beautiful sunshine were enough to make these girls smile and they were lucky enough to meet and listen to a motivational talk from our very own Olympic Silver Medalist in the Nacra 17s, Lisa Darmanin.

A great day out on the water and we also managed to achieve some fantastic results:

• Jaimee Atkinson-Wall and Charlie Sansom were our very first entry into Division One and  managed to achieve a mid fleet result which was a huge achievement by these girls in their first race as Division One.
• Evelyn Floyd and Holly West achieved second place in Golf fleet Division One. These girls were not expecting this result and were even more surprised when Lisa Darmanin presented the girls with their medals.
• Vivienne Floyd and Tayla Edwards were a new partnership to the group. This was Vivienne’s first time helming a boat competitively and Tayla’s first race! The girls achieved some fantastic results with a second in one of their races!

We have the Teams Racing State Titles coming up next week on the 23 and 25 March. This is what we work all season for so the team are very excited to compete on these days.

A huge thank you to all the parents for their support and encouragement during this program. We are looking forward to expanding our team next season with 8 new members undergoing some intensive training over the off season. Exciting times for the Dromana College Sailing Team!
