Student Leaders Report

Year 10 so far has been an awesome experience! We started the year off by returning to co-ed classes which has been excellent because in subjects such as English, we are having both inputs and ideas from a wide variety of people.

The year 10 work load has definitely been a challenge to get used to but after a couple of weeks it has been very simple to get into the groove of things.

This year our cohort has been given the opportunity to  partake in the Japanese and Indonesian trips as well as be involved in the central Australia trips! If we wish not to be involved in the trips available, then we are given the amazing opportunity of work experience which allows students to spend a week in a similar career path in which they wish to be involved in!

One thing I realised going into Year 10 was that you must keep up to date and stay organised, which is fantastic because it's preparing us for future years!

All Year 10 students have been given the opportunity to partake in a VCE subject, allowing us to begin our VCE early or even allow us to get a feel of what VCE will be like for those travelling down that path!

So far Year 10 has been an amazing adventure and I look forward to seeing what the rest of the year brings for me and the remaining students in my year level!

2016 Alpine School CLP Report – Lara Topluoglu

In Term 2 of 2016, 8 Year 9 students for Dromana College (Lara Topluoglu, Brynee Clarke, Temeka Adie, Ben Golotta, James Seward, Grant Baxter, Kaleb Morrison and Sebastian Zelisko) attended the Alpine School for Student Leadership. Over a duration of 10 weeks, they developed a variety of leadership skills and abilities. One of their responsibilities whilst away was to create a Community Learning Project (CLP) that could be implemented upon return. A CLP is a project created by students to help benefit the broader community. Their CLP was to visit a local primary school and educate the grade 5’s about the benefits of leadership and teamwork. They achieved this by running fun and interactive activities with the primary schoolers and holding valuable decisions about what they had leant afterwards. On the date, the 8 students visited Balnarring primary School and ran 5 activities that contained values of leadership, teamwork, communication, cooperation and respect with 40 grade 5 students. Upon further discussion, feedback was given and the primary students found the visit to be educational, helpful, interesting and fun. Lara, Brynee, Temeka, Ben, James, Grant, Kaleb and Sebastian were extremely proud with all their hard work and effort. To their surprise, they learnt a few new things themselves. Thanks to their liaison teacher Mr Adrian Moore who supported them and aided in the execution of the CLP. Their Community Learning Project was a memorable experience that benefited many.

Our Motto This Year

This year as a cohort we are emphasizing working hard with the motto:

“HARD WORK BEATS TALENT, BUT ONLY WHEN TALENT DOESN'T WORK HARD”
