LIONS 2017 Youth of the Year Quest
This year Dromana College had four students participate in the LIONS Youth of the Year Quest.
This program is designed to encourage student interest in leadership and in taking an active and constructive role in the community. Each student participated in an interview with LIONS club members, and then spoke at a function held at the Safety Beach Yacht Club on Monday 20 February.
The students were required to give two short impromptu speeches followed by a prepared five minute speech on a topic of their own choice. They all acquitted themselves extremely well, and impressed the judges with their preparation, their knowledge of their topic and their public speaking skills.
The participating students and their topics were:
- Jasmine Ball, Year 11: ‘Climate change and the Environment’
- David Brackenridge, Year 11: ‘Freedom of Speech’
- Dakota Clarke, Year 11: ‘Gravity’
- Oscar Wycisk, Year 11: ‘Feminism’
Congratulations to each of you on the professional way in which you conducted yourselves, and on your very polished and engaging speeches. A special commendation goes to Oscar, who was presented with the ‘Public Speaking Award’, and as the winner of the Club Final, went on to represent Dromana Lions Club at the District Final in Mt Martha.
The College is pleased and proud to announce that Oscar won the District Final, and will now proceed to the Regional Final to be held on Sunday 26 March, at Trafalgar. Congratulations, Oscar, and the College community wish you all the best as you participate in another round of interviews and public speaking presentations.
