Junior School News

From the Deputy Head of Junior School

It has been a busy start to the term and it is wonderful to see all the students back into the swing of Term Three.

This year we have worked with the council and parents to achieve a more efficient and safer process when parents drop off and pick up students. The work of the staff in this process is also acknowledged and appreciated. Students may need to walk a little further to the gate and parents can no longer get out of their cars in MacKenzie St.  but this is a small price to pay for the safety of our students.

This week we enjoyed a visit from the wonderful Australian composer and musician Paul Jarman who came in to work with our choirs.  With the ability to play 25 instruments, and having played in over 40 countries around the world, Mr Jarman’s rich musical experience is something that students have been truly immersed.

Over the last month, the school has benefitted from the expertise of Dan Petro. Dan is a Behaviour Analyst and director of Behavioural Resources Australia Pty Ltd where he utilises his extensive professional history of developing custom behaviour management and intervention programs, including providing the implementation training. Dan has worked with our Junior and Senior School staff to help them better cater to the ever-increasing needs of our students.

We thank the Friends of Junior School who have continued to meet monthly this year and are currently preparing for the Girton’s Got Heart function at Fortuna on Friday 9th August. I encourage parents to attend this event which promises to be a wonderful evening.

Mulan Jr

Girton Grammar Junior School is buzzing with excitement for the upcoming production of Mulan Jr which will be performed in Term 4. The Year Two, Four and Six students have been busy learning to sing some familiar songs from the Disney version of the story Fa Mulan. Mrs. Jenny Geyer and Mrs. Georgiana Rice have been working with the main characters to learn their scenes of dialogue and several exciting dances.

On Saturday 27th of July, the main characters took part in a photo shoot at the Golden Dragon Museum. Mrs. Ann Forko, Mrs. Nicola Matthew, Mrs. Mandy Ellison and a group of parents and Senior School makeup helpers transformed the children into their characters.

Thank you to all the staff and parents who assisted with makeup and costumes during the photo shoot.

Student quotes:

  • Lulu Stanley 6V (Grandmother Fa) - “I loved being able to see my character come to life when we put on our makeup and costumes. It was very exciting”.
  • Charlotte McNally 6V (Yun: ancestor)-  “I liked that we were able to shoot the photos in a Chinese setting. I really liked the Chinese gardens.”

Junior State Aeroschools Championships

What a fabulous day for the Junior Aerobic students.  After all of their hard work, it was pleasing to see them take the stage and develop confidence.  It was an amazing achievement for the whole team to work together to win the Aeroschool Champion Primary School award, the students were most impressed with our trophy.

Congratulations to the following students who have qualified to compete at the National Aeroschool Championships. They had to make the top 5 to progress to the next level and all of our students made it through in at least one of their routines.
