ICCES Debating Competition 2019

          

On Tuesday 30th July, members of the Girton Grammar School Debating team competed in ICCES at Bacchus Marsh Grammar. The students had a great day out, represented the School impeccably and debated with gusto! Here are the results:

 

Senior Team 1: Sophie Thomson (11 Frew), Conrad Livingstone (12 Frew) and Jordan Rogers (12 Millward and Captain of Debating) debated ‘That we should abolish the ATAR system’ (Affirmative). They won their debate.

 

Senior Team 2: Lasith Kulusekera (10 Jones), Will Hamilton (10 Jenkin) and Aubrey Jacobs (10 Jones) addressed the topic, ‘That money can’t buy happiness’ (Negative), losing by a small margin.

 

Junior Team 1: Sophie Mayes (8 Jones), Zoe Cuthbertson (8 Jones) and Poppy Cornelius (8 Aherne) presented two debates. The first was ‘That Australians spend too much time at work’ (Negative) which they won.

The second debate topic was ‘That it should be illegal to keep animals as pets’.

 

Junior Team 2: Isabella Marchant (8 Millward), Viran Dhanapala (8 Riley) and Aksharan Shobanan (8 Riley) also debated ‘That Australians spend too much time at work’ (Negative). They won this debate. Congratulations to Isabella for her participating in her first official debate!

 

 

Junior Team 3: Jenna Ackland (7 Jones), Bailey Dolan (7 Aherne) and Claire Filopovic (8 Frew) also debated ‘That it should be illegal to keep pets as animals’. Congratulations to Claire for her participating in her first official debate!
