Max Tulloch (12 Jones)

Congratulations to Max Tulloch who recently competed in the Semi-Final for the Plain English Speaking Awards which were held at the end of last term at 2 Treasury Place in East Melbourne.

Max, as winner of the Regional competition, won the honour to move forward to the semi-finals and represented Girton Grammar with real energy and dignity.

Cheered on by a large retinue of family members and Mrs Morgan, Max spoke with his usual aplomb, dry wit and well informed manner on his chosen topic of “Political Apathy in Australia”.

The impromptu topic of “One way or another” allowed Max to explore thoughtful ideas relating to the value of scientific research.

Unfortunately, Max was competing in a particularly talented field of seven speakers and he was beaten on the day by a student from Nossal High School who offered her views on the topic of “Existing as a statistic”.

Hannah and Olivia Green (8 Aherne)

Hannah and Olivia Were selected to represent Victoria in the under 15 A girls team, National Table Tennis Championships which were held in Wollongong in the July school holidays.

After a solid week of a very high level of competition, the team won silver coming in second to South Australia. When the merits were handed out at the awards event Hannah was ranked Number 6 and Olivia Number 7 in Australia under 15 girls which is an excellent achievement especially given that the girls have a further 12 months in the under 15 age category.

Hannah and Olivia also made it to the quarter finals in the under 15 girls individual events.
