What a fantastic couple of weeks in the Performing Arts Department.

Rehearsals for our school production ‘The Addams Family Musical’ started last week which will see 70+ students in the cast, crew and band perform in August. Cast members have already begun learning harmonies and chorography for musical numbers. Ticketing information will be released later in the year so make sure you don’t miss out when tickets become available.

The Year 10 Global Theatre class visited the Royal Botanical Gardens to watch the Australian Shakespeare Company perform ‘Macbeth’. It was a great night of theatre and enjoyed by all those in attendance. Thank you to Steve McPhail, Peter O’Neill and Donna Brunt who gave up their night to attend this performance with the students.

On Tuesday 2nd of March, the Global Theatre drama class, went on a delightful and yet insightful journey to the Botanical gardens, to witness the performance of one of Shakespeare's greatest, the extraordinary tale of Macbeth! The feedback from the class was very similar, as we all were kept captivated by the terrifying and tragic twist that was unfolding before us, that is the story of Macbeth. We would like to thank Mr McPhail, Mr O'Neill, Ms Brunt and Ms Cronin for giving us this amazing and yet memorable experience, one will never forget! Caitlyn Alexander (Year 10)

The Tullow Sessions have continued and we have had three fantastic events in the last fortnight. On Friday 5th March, Mr Jeff Vague and the Killester College ‘Big Band’ made their 2021 debut performing a number of songs for staff and students at lunchtime. They were accompanied by Guilia Magagna on vocals for a fantastic rendition of ‘I Feel Good’ by James Brown.

On Tuesday 9th March, we joined together once again to celebrate International Women’s Day. This day is marked annually around the world to celebrate women’s achievements, raise awareness about women’s equality and to fundraise for female-focused charities. With ‘female anthems’ as the theme, we saw brilliant performances including our Swing Sisters choir lead by Ms Brigitte Garofalo who performed ‘Scars to Your Beautiful’.

Esther Kiir and Gloria Le (Year 11) performed ‘Sessions 32’ on vocals and guitar. Sienna Quinn (Year 11) and Tyrese Dimalanta (Year 10) also joined me on stage for a performance of ‘The Schuyler Sisters’ from Hamilton: The Musical.

It is great to see so many students be courageous and perform in front of their peers. Our last Tullow Session is on Friday 19th March to celebrate Harmony Day which I am sure will be another fantastic celebration. Thank you again to our amazing students in the Arts Committee who assist in running these performances.
