Life Drawing

The students studying VCE Art Units 1 and 3, have completed their third of four life drawing sessions. The model for the final two sessions, is a male model (who wore briefs). As the students have improved their observational skills through the life drawing sessions, the change from the female figure to male, meant they were able to confidently capture the male figure who had more muscle definition, than the softer lines of the female model. Media students used this week was charcoal, coloured pencil and ink on paper.

Some feedback by the students:

I’ve definitely improved my drawing structure, as I’m not normally confident with realistic drawing, and it normally takes me much longer to get my anatomy right. - Isabella

I loved the dynamic poses of the model. It was a challenge in the beginning but I enjoyed it, especially trying to capture the figure using ink. I can definitely see an improvement from my drawings after each life drawing session. - Missy

Drawing the male model was different than drawing the female model we had. Our male model had dynamic poses which were challenging to draw at first. Although his skin was smoother, it was challenging to draw the hair on his body. I can see that my drawings are improving - Lan

Visual Communication Design

Unit 3 Outcome 1: Analysis and practice in context

In this unit students gain an understanding of the process designers employ to structure their thinking and communicate ideas with clients and target audiences. Through practical investigation and analysis of existing visual communications, students gain insight into how the selection of methods, media and materials, and the application of design elements and design principles, can create effective visual communications for specific audiences and purposes. They investigate and experiment with the use of manual and digital methods, media and materials to make informed decisions when selecting suitable approaches for the development of their own design ideas and concepts. The talented year 12 VCD students focused on the design of ‘Tea Packaging’ in the field of Communication Design for the practical component of this outcome. They have all produced outstanding designs for their chosen flavour of tea.
