 Voice and Choice

In Voice and Choice this term students were able to celebrate their individual passions as they problem-solved and managed their own time with a wide myriad of projects.

Choice and Voice gave me the opportunity to pursue one of my wishes. I had always wanted to learn the art of jewellery making. In my project, I made some jewellery pieces including earrings, necklaces and bracelets. This project really helped me to express myself in a way that I loved. After purchasing all the needed equipment, I created my very own handmade jewellery. I was really astonished that I could make such lovely pieces. The process was quite simple, only including a few steps. We had so much time to learn whatever we wanted to learn and that was really incredible. My small book began to fill with ideas and I think the end product was pretty good. Bijila Biju Jayakumari

Choice and Voice has been very interesting. I have chosen sewing and fashion for my project and enjoy doing it. My main challenge was getting the stuff to do the project but in the end we overcame those issues. Sewing and fashion design is one of my favorite things to do and when I learnt I could do it at school, I got very excited. I ended up designing and making my own pattern and made a wearable pin striped wrap skirt with buttons.

In the Choice and Voice projects, I chose to do Medieval Poetry. This was something very fascinating to me, for instance, the language, the style, and the meaning. Because of this project that I chose, I had the absolute honour to experiment with things such as Calligraphy pen, Inks and dying paper with black coffee. Dying paper with black coffee was such a fun experience !  The teachers were very supportive of this idea and guided me each step. The process at first wasn't easy but I slowly got the hang of it and started to enjoy it. I believe the outcome will be spectacular!  Leah Sao

During this term’s Choice & Voice project, I have decided to improve my crochet skills. I wanted to do this as I think crocheting is a good skill to have, I have taught myself to crochet new patterns. I have not yet finished my project but I am happy with how it’s turning out, I plan to crochet a tote bag. I have enjoyed being able to choose what I do for three periods for the project and I am happy that I’ve improved my crocheting skills.

I did my project on embroidery, it is a skill that I have now gotten the hang of. I decided to do it because last year I was meant to do it in textiles but because of COVID I never got to do it. So I took this opportunity to learn how to embroider. So far I have embroidered a tote bag and my pencil case. I really enjoyed doing this because it was more student lead and I could do what I personally wanted. I feel very happy with the skill I learnt and will use it to personalise more things in the future.  Lina Suy

I've decided to do broad research about 'How does the mind works'. The reason why I have chosen this topic is that I've been wanting to learn more about our unique brain for a long period of time, and gain new useful knowledge from it. In these activities, we get to pick what we like and learn more about our passion. We also have the freedom to manage our own time and what we would like to do each week.be Overall, it was a quite fun experience. Angelina Doan

For the projects I've been doing food photography and food styling. I have taken my own photos of cupcakes, cheesecakes, tacos. I used my iphone to take all of the photos. I did a lot of research on tips and tricks and ways to improve my photos. During this project, I was able to go down to the food tech room and take photos of the cakes other students have made. I have enjoyed this project as I have had a lot of freedom and I was able to do anything I like.  Tharvry Soth

For this class I am writing a book in the theme of “Fantasy” I have used the time to make characters, a plot, character designs, and a whole other part of a language to ultimately create a story. I have enjoyed writing it so far. I decided to write a story for my project because writing is something I enjoy doing, getting to make different worlds and characters makes me happy.  Ella-Maree 

I decided to research colour theory (what colours look good together), how to make things look more realistic, photography, designing, etc to build a seating area in a game called Animal Crossing. I've enjoyed doing this project because I got to choose what I wanted to do. Tyra Haralabakos

I chose to do my project on the video game 'Minecraft'. I started by doing some research on the game and its history, seeing how it was first developed and what you can do in it. After putting most of the information that I learned into a slideshow, I started making my own hostile mobs (characters that would attack the player) and after designing them, I started sketching with all of them and my Minecraft player. I've enjoyed getting to do this project as everyone can get really creative and choose to do their project on something they're passionate about. Samantha Flor
