Music Performances at Lalor North Secondary College's Assembly
Our awesome music students smashed out 3 amazing songs at the recent College Assembly which was held in the School's Gym on Thursday 12th May 2022
See Anthony below singing an emotionally charged version of ‘Dancing on my own’, a song by Calum Scott. Anthony connected with his audience to a level rarely seen before as we all identified with the emotion of the song. Being in one big space together as a school community after 2 years of Covid restrictions was an electrifying experience and yes, many of us tried to hold back tears during Anthony’s song…..but we were together.
Soon after, our amazing senior VCE/VET music singers delivered a soulful version of ‘Count on Me’ by Bruno Mars and a striking acapella version of ‘Ngarra Burra Ferra’ (a traditional Indigenous hymn by the Yorta Yorta people of North East Victoria). This song of defiance, hope and freedom from oppression is an adaptation of an African American spiritual ‘Turn back Pharoah’s Army’ and has also been performed by Jessica Mauboy.
Thanks to our amazing new singing teacher, Mia Sifonios, for her hard work over many weeks preparing our students with their songs.
