Uniform Reminder

Students are required to wear full school uniform each day.

Key points of below article:

  • It is compulsory to wear school uniform each day.
  • Plenty of warm correct uniform options available the winter months.
  • Uniform passes are required for short term uniform exemptions.
  • From Term 3, students who come to school with the incorrect jumper and/or jacket, will be provided with a uniform jumper/jacket for the day whether they have a note from home or not.
  • Uniform shop information and financial assistance for uniform is available.

Uniform

We love to see our students wearing the correct Wantirna College uniform with pride, including when they are out in the community.

As we continue through the winter months, students and families are reminded that our College uniform is compulsory and must be worn to school each day.

Details of our Student  Dress Code Policy can be found at:

https://www.wantirnacollege.vic.edu.au/parents/school-policies

When students come to the Assistant Principal offices to collect a uniform pass, we often talk to them about the real world application of wearing a uniform. We talk to students about entering the workforce and the expectations of wearing a uniform/dress code suitable for the context of the workplace.

Many of our students have part time jobs at places like Coles, McDonalds, KFC etc. When asked what would happen if they turned up to work out of uniform, the response from students is generally ‘we would get sent home and lose our shift’. When asked what would happen if they did this on a regular basis, the response is ‘we would lose our job.’

As an educational institution, learning for students goes beyond the classroom. Part of having a Student Dress Code Policy, and an expectation that the policy is followed, is to prepare students for life after school.

Don't forget to Layer Up

Recently we have been having some cold winter days and we recommend students layer up their uniform to stay warm. Options include:

Tops: Wear a white undergarment (t-shirt, singlet, thermals), school polo, school rugby jumper, school jacket. A plain navy, maroon or cream scarf can also be worn.

Bottoms: Wear thermals, tights or skins underneath their school pants.

Head:  Wear the College beanie.

Students are welcome to wear additional white undergarments beneath their polo shirt as long as they are not visible. Students should not be wearing jumpers and long sleeved tops underneath their polo shirt.

If students feel that they are cold wearing the school uniform, they should be layering up as mentioned above rather than wearing non-uniform items. Many students report that they are warm during the day wearing the complete school uniform.

Uniform passes

Uniform passes are available for students who require a short-term exemption for their uniform. If a student is unable to wear an item of uniform at any time, please send your child with a note of explanation to the Assistant Principal offices before school where they will receive a uniform pass for the day. Students will need to keep their uniform pass on them at all times and show it when requested.

Uniform passes without a note

If a student presents at school out of uniform and does not have a note from home, the student will receive a uniform pass. This breach in school policy will be recorded on Compass and families will receive an email informing them that their child has come to school out of uniform without a note. In addition, students will receive one uniform point on Compass. Once a student accumulates 5 points, they will receive a consequence.

Jumpers (including hoodies)

Incorrect jumpers are not to be worn as an outer garment or under garment (ie under school polo shirts/school rugby jumpers).

Students who wear a non-uniform jumper or jacket to school will be asked to remove their jumper/jacket and replace it with a clean school rugby jumper/jacket for the day. This will be the process whether the student has a note from home or not.

Students will be expected to return the school rugby jumper/jacket to reception at the end of the day and collect their confiscated jumper/jacket. Students who provide a note will not receive a uniform point. Students without a note will receive one uniform point.

This process will ensure that our students have every opportunity to wear the correct uniform at school.

Hats/Beanies

Non-Wantirna College hats/beanies are not school uniform and, if worn, will be confiscated.

Shoes & Socks

A reminder that students must wear Black full leather lace up, low heeled shoes (shoes with mesh upper or tongue do not meet OH&S requirements). The correct sock colour for all  students  is  plain white.

PE Uniform

Students who have timetabled PE classes are able to wear their PE uniform to and from school on these days. PE Leggings must be navy. Students will change into alternative clothing for Drama and Dance classes as required by the teacher. Alternatively, they will be permitted to wear their Physical Education uniform on days that they have a scheduled Drama or Dance class.

Uniform Shop

A list of our uniform items can be found on Compass under the ‘two people’ icon, School Documentation, For Parents, Uniform. Uniform Shop opening hours can be found in your Compass calendar.  Our Uniform shop is open Monday and Thursday 3pm to 5pm, except for the last week of Term 2 this year.
