KIOSC - Year 8 Maths

This term found the year 8 Students going to KIOSC with a focus on logistics and how technology is impacting the movement of goods from factory floor to customer.

Session One required students to program a goods picking arm, using an X,Y,Z three dimensional cartesian coordinate system to pick goods up from one location and either stack them up or drop them into goods baskets in another location.  They also needed to troubleshoot the coding required to make a successful delivery.

Session two used mBot robots to move the goods around the factory floor.  The robots were programmed using scratch coding, getting them to follow lines on the floor and using programmed code that used distances travelled and turn angles.

The final session found the students using the Intelino trains to organise deliveries from the base to various stations.  Using sequences of coloured tiles, the trains were programmed to speed up, slow down stop and reverse.

Students needed to troubleshoot the designated delivery schedule, ensuring that the train arrived at the correct location, at an appropriate speed, in the correct order.
