Principal Team Editorial

Working as a school leader can often mean that no two days are the same. The challenges you face in this role can often be complex and not so easy to fix, and when those challenges come at you on consecutive days, like many jobs, you can often forget to spend some conscious time reminding yourself of the positive aspects of your job. The last couple of weeks have been filled with reminders about why being a Principal at Wantirna College, is such a great job to have!

The College production is always a highlight for me. As someone who, in previous roles was heavily involved in producing school musicals, I love all aspects, both onstage and backstage, and revel in what both parts do for our students and staff. The production process is a long one, and it has been enjoyable to see how it has progressed at rehearsals throughout the terms. The last couple of years has made us better appreciate these experiences, and the learning and life experiences which come with extra curricula activities like this.

I encourage you to get along to “Be More Chill”! If you haven’t seen it already, it’s a great show that is a lot of fun! I want to pay tribute to both the cast, crew, band and teachers that have worked so hard to make this happen.

Last week we conducted our mid-year Awards presentations. It was a great opportunity for us to recognise outstanding student achievement, with the support of the parents of our Award winners. I congratulate the students for their hard work and persistence through what has again been a difficult year! And yes, whilst recognising achievement is important and we will continue to do this in the future, we need to do a better job at celebrating student growth no matter what level of achievement has been achieved. Expect to see this as a feature of the end of year Awards evening.

Finally, we are making good progress with our $11.8 million building program, with an inception meeting and site walk-around already taking place. Parents will be invited to a forum to be conducted by our architects in coming weeks!
